5 Ways to Boost Your Energy Naturally

You can find all kinds of pills, herbs and drinks sold over the counter as “energy” boosters in your local stores but most of them contain chemicals and drugs that could be dangerous, unhealthy or just aren’t effective.

Here are 5 ways you can boost your energy levels naturally without worrying about dangerous side effects.

1. Reduce stress

The emotions brought on by stress consume huge amounts of energy. Talking with a friend, joining a group, or seeing a therapist can all help reduce stress. Relaxation therapies like meditation, yoga, and tai chi are also effective for reducing stress.

2. Reduce your workload

Overwork can include not just work, but also family and social obligations. Try to streamline your list of “to-dos”. Set your priorities and get rid of things that aren’t important.  Consider hiring an assistant if you can afford one.

3. Exercise

Exercise not only ensures better sleep, but also gives your cells more energy to burn fat and take in oxygen. And exercising causes your body to release hormones that in modest amounts can make you feel energized. Even a 30 minute walk is a good start.

4. Eat for energy

Eating foods with a low glycemic index — whose sugars are absorbed slowly — may help you avoid the lag in energy that typically occurs after eating high glycemic sugars or refined and processed carbs. Foods with a low glycemic index include whole grains, high-fiber vegetables, nuts, and healthy oils such as olive oil. In general, high-carbohydrate foods have the highest glycemic indexes. Proteins and fats have glycemic indexes that are close to zero.

5.  Drink water

What’s the only nutrient that has been shown to enhance performance for all but the most demanding endurance activities? It’s not some pricey sports drink. It’s water. If your body is short of fluids, one of the first signs is a feeling of fatigue.
