Step 2: 5 Simple Steps to Lose Weight Naturally and FAST!

Step 2

Replace refined white sugar with natural, unprocessed raw honey (or other natural sweetner).

I grew up on Count Chocula, Nestle Quik (that I added to the Count Chocula because it wasn’t chocatley enough) and for dessert, Ding Dongs and Ho-Ho’s. Fortunately, I also was also very active. I was involved almost every sport so working off all those extra calories was not difficult. It wasn’t until I hit college that it all started to catch up with me and as became less active, the weight gain followed.

Well, unfortunately, as we learned in Step 1, your cells can only process a certain amount of carbohydrates before the excess gets stored as fat. So white sugar, which is 99.9% pure carbohydrate in the form of sucrose, will not only raise your blood sugar to levels that will cause you to pack on the pounds, but also is now linked to virtually every chronic disease known to man. (More about that in later posts.)

To make matters worse, white refined sugar has no vitamins, no minerals, no fiber, no enzymes, no protein, nothing of any nutritional value. It is empty calories. So when your diet is high in sugar, you will feel hungry all the time because your body craves nutrients that sugar cannot provide. It’s a double weight gain trap!

If you have a craving for sweets, natural raw honey may be your answer. All sweetners should be used in moderation if the goal is weight loss but, unlike white refined sugar, raw honey is packed with nutrients.

In fact, some call this nature’s perfect food. Why? Because it contains 22 amino acids (the building blocks of proteins), active enzymes, B vitamins and a variety of minerals that aid in metabolism. And while it ranks high on the glycemic index, if you MUST have something sweet, this may be a good alternative because some studies show that honey can actually boost your metabolism!

If you think the way around weight gain is through artificial sweetners, think again. Not only are they poison for your body, they also trick the brain into secreting insulin (the hormone responsible for signaling fat storage when too much sugar is in your blood) just as it would if you were eating “natural” sweetners so it’s a lose-lose. (Poison + weight gain = I don’t think so.)

A little weight loss trick worth trying: when you wake up, drink a glass of water with lemon juice and a little bit of honey. It’s an effective fat burning technique to increase your metabolism (and if you really want to rev it up add some cayenne pepper!).  Give it a try and post your comments below.
